Why I Paid April $50 For Just One Question!

Ready for a good story?

Some of you know I recently finished a book that is not yet published (more on that later) but it took me over TEN years to write it!

During that time my husband and I got a redirect from the Lord and moved to Lancaster, PA, where we are both on staff at Worship Center. We love it here. But, in order to be full-time there, I needed to hire people to do what I was doing at Bridges, which turned out fabulously! Sarah Fulton now manages the Coaching Culture branch, April Lonneville oversees the Destiny by Design side, and Michelle Pavasars facilitates the Next Level Coach Training(NXL).

During the very first NXL cohort, I volunteered to be coached by our Mentor Coach, Walt Hastings, while the class observed.

This is where the famous question from April happened!

My focus for the coaching session was whether or not to finish my book. The complication was that I was juggling a full-time job and running a business on the side but still feeling compelled to complete what I started writing.

There just didn't seem to be enough time for everything I wanted to do.

Dr. Hastings asked if anyone in the cohort had a coaching question they wanted to ask me. That's when April's question helped me see things more clearly, gave me freedom and peace, and totally SHIFTED my mindset!

She simply asked, "What's the rush?"

DING! DING! DING!

AHA! What was the rush? I realized that just because I was feeling compelled to finish the book it didn't mean I needed to do it right then. (It seems so obvious now, but it was really weighty then...)

I felt God reminding me that there was a time for everything - that He only had one thing for me to do at a time and I didn't need to feel like I was behind or letting HIm down just because I hadn't completed the project yet.

Feeling compelled to do something does not mean you are behind, it just means you should keep that item on your list. I don't know how I messed that up, but I certainly felt relief when I figure out that the angst within me did not pull me down, but rather released me to a sustainable pace.

April wasn't even coaching me one on one. We were just in a group setting, but I sent her a check!

That one question helped me see things completely differently.

Maybe you could be like April and ask one question of someone that could radically change their outlook on whatever they are facing.

Whether you are a small group leader, a friend, a relative, or even a stranger just making small talk - asking good questions can provide Aha moments and change life trajectories!

Thank you, April for asking that question!

If you need a breakthrough - maybe you should set up a session with one of our Associate Coaches!

If you want to ask better questions - check out our coach training options! (Certification or video training)

If you want to check out April's branch of Bridges - Destiny by Design the fall cohort has not yet launched or there is a video option there as well!

May God guide your every next! He always offers a plan!
