Simple Success: Is Content Deficit Really The Problem?

In these days of Google, kindle, and podcasts on demand, we live in a content-rich environment. if you want to know more about something all you need to do is ask SirI or Alexa!

I'm not sure if I have ever heard anyone wistfully say, "If only I knew where or how to get more information on that..."

I know a lot more than I do.

What if a plan is really what is needed? Here are a two actual (and perhaps too personal) examples.

Here's what I know - what I have done - and what I am doing now.

I know sugar is not great for my ultimate weight loss goal, but knowing and doing something about it are two different things. When I took an honest assessment I found I had way too many exceptions for why I should go ahead and have that latte or late-night snack. I don't need more information about sugar, I need an actual plan to remove it or reduce it from my life..

My current SMART goal is that I can have sugar in my morning coffee, but then I need to lay off...

Step 3: OK, Let's Get Some Traction!

Let's review our journey on the Bridges Coaching ROAD so far.

R - take some time to RECOGNIZE where you want to go. Where are you building a bridge to? Please don't just pick something that bugs you, or even what jazzes you. Take time to discern where God is leading you to next! More on that here.

O - consider your personality and your track record. If what you were shooting for was easy, you would probably already be there or at least on your way. A new goal, a new journey, is going to take some OWNERSHIP on your part. Ask yourself what obstacles need to be addressed for you to move forward.

This brings us to our next letter in the Coaching ROAD.

A - is for ACTION STEPS.

Most people probably find the most traction here. This answers the "Now what?" question. Learning to make SMART goals is something our coach trainees say is a highlight of their studies. Defining where you want to build toward and what has held you back are important first steps, but we still haven't...

How Will You Celebrate? (And what will you celebrate?!)

Life is a journey. We have a final destination and lots of big and little milestones along the way.

Unless we don't.

It is possible to just drift through life... Drifting is like living in rote, doing the same things over and over without taking notice - without celebrating milestones, planning for new memories, or moving toward valued goals.

Sometimes I personally miss celebrating and just move on to the next goal without stopping to acknowledge what just happened! How sad. I'm embarrassed to say that living in the moment is often hard for me, even when I am with family I am envisioning how long it will be till we get to be together again.

Good coaching includes planning for celebration!

First, we need to choose a worthy goal like:

  • Completing that project
  • Making that appointment
  • Planning a gathering
  • Working a new habit in
  • Focusing on a character goal (yes, even those can be coached!)

Then we work the system and adjust as needed. (See the demystifying SMART goals blog...

How To Turn Your Hopes Into Reality (Easy guide to SMART goals)

Everything starts with an idea, but some of the best ideas never grow to become real. Having ideas is a great and important first step. Making quality goals changes outcomes and ultimately transforms lives.

It has been said that if you aren’t sure where you are going you will surely get there (nowhere) or if you fail to aim you aim to fail!

In order to have a step-by-step plan or leading from God you need to have steps. You can always change them as He leads, but having them keeps in motion. It is always easier to turn a moving ship, car, bike, skateboard... whatever.

To quote American philanthropist Elbert Hubbard,

"Many people fail in life, not for lack of ability or brains or even courage, but simply because they have never organized their energies around a goal."

Dreams are unrefined hope and cost-free aspirations that we might do someday. Converting a dream into a goal is a decision to take tangible steps to pursue it. Goals are specific future targets that we...

8 Reasons NOT to make goals!

goals new years smart goals Jan 10, 2022

Looking for reasons not to make goals. Maybe I can help. If any of these are true for you, maybe it would be best to just stay the course.

#1 – You are right where you want to be in all the areas of your lifeOpen the
Wheel of Life Assessment and do the project to be sure you are a 10 in every area.
(Okay, maybe my reasons are tongue in cheek, but hear me out?)

#2 – You’ve made goals before, and they didn’t work out.

This one hurts. I’ve been there. You get all pumped up about a dream becoming a reality, but then reality burst syour dream bubble.

Can I propose that making a SMART goal could be the cure for this one? Google it, hire a coach, or get the Traction self-coaching guide to walk you through goals that work for you!

#3 – You prefer to just “see how things go”.

This one could actually be a good reason if you really sense God asking you to let things go. It would probably be best said in...
