How to Go Deeper with Advanced Coaching Concepts

There are multiple types of "Aha" moments available in coaching. Let's look at a few together:

  • Choosing a specific focus when there were many worthy options to consider.
  • Making a quality SMART goal.
  • Recognizing a mindset that has been holding you back.
  • Developing a plan to "maintain your gain" and keep up with the new habit or whatever you worked toward.

Like we talked about last time, having a coaching mindset starts with Active Listening and Asking Empowering questions. At its core, coaching culture chooses to put the other person first and prioritize what they are sharing.

We can do this as friends. We honor our family when we focus on whatever is important to them in a conversation.

Regular conversations are different. They can be two friends doing life together by sharing experiences and insights. They can be family chats sharing the highs and lows of life, or resolving scheduling issues. They can even be problem-solving in a group setting.

Most of the above deal with the "What" of a situation. What needs to be focused on, what needs to be done, what should be included. Who will do what by when, etc.

Advanced coaching addresses the "Who".

Coming alongside someone to help them see what has been buried inside them for some time can aid them in deeper ways.

When we can help someone realize that viewing life through a fixed mindset (lie) is what is truly holding them back, that is a real breakthrough!

Here are some of the lies that can hold us back:

"I could never _________ because ________"

"If only I had ____________, then everything would be different."

"It's just different for me; others just don't get it."

The list could go on.

In our Next Level Coach Training, we discuss coaching the "Who" in greater depth. How about you? Do you use a coaching mindset in your conversations - employing active listening and asking empowering questions? Are you helping people with their "What"? That is a fantastic gift. If you are interested in taking it even further, consider helping them see the "Who" that has been limiting their path.

Proverbs 20:5 says, "People's thoughts can be like a deep well, but someone with understanding can find the wisdom there."

If you are interested in taking your conversations to the next level, maybe it's time for some coach training. The best way is through a cohort that leads to Life Coach Certification. Most people use these tools in their current life, but a few move on to an actual coaching practice. We can help you either way.

We also offer what we call coaching lite: access to the Coaching Culture video training, which includes a workbook with interactive personal projects, journaling prompts, and more.

Or, there's the Traction book for use on your own personal coaching journey.
