Is Coaching Even Biblical? [Final]

We've been talking about coaching and the biblical model for growth.

We started with how God wants to interact with people directly

Next we talked about adult learning, "Aha" moments and discipleship.

And finally, today, we will focus on how God made each of us differently.

We are really big on this at Bridges, we even have an entire course on discovering your Destiny by Design!

1 Corinthians 12 is one place we see God sharing about our individual design.

There are different kinds of gifts, but they are all from the same Spirit.  There are different ways to serve but the same Lord to serve.  And there are different ways that God works through people but the same God. God works in all of us in everything we do.

There are many more places in the Bible that talk about our individuality. Some of us are more evangelistic and some are more inclined to teach or to serve. Later in 1 Corinthians 12 people are compared to being different body parts and accepting who they are meant to be.

If we know who are are meant to be, it is easier to know what to say "yes" to and when to say "no".

Sometimes it is obvious and easy. If certain people were asked to write a book, they wouldn't have to consider if it was a good idea. Same with building a house or running a marathon. But sometimes it is not that clear. Sometimes we need coaching to ask questions like:

  • Is it more wisdom or fear that is keeping you from moving forward with that idea?
  • If you don't say "yes" how will you feel in 5 or 10 years?
  • What will it cost you if you stay where you are?
  • What benefits will you gain if you resolve this?
  • How will you know which option to choose?

Just like a healthy marriage may look different from couple to couple a healthy relationship with God may look different from person to person. In both examples, relationship and interaction are key!

How do you hear from God?

What kinds of works has He created in advance for you to do? (Ephesians 2:10) How will you know?

Coaching has helped me narrow my focus and do what I do best. It has given me courage to face hard things when I needed to and to pursue patience when I needed to wait. It's not easy sometimes though...

These are the adventures of faith that God has designed us for. If your faith life has grown stagnant or if you are paralyzed by fear, God always offers a plan. Coaching helps you make good choices!
