People get stuck when they feel there is no way out; we all tend to excuse ourselves from seeing what needs to be seen and doing what needs to be done to move ahead.
Last time we talked about the 1st essential for a growth mindset - the need for humility. If we can't see where we need help, we are not likely to receive what we desperately need. (Probably worth the click if you haven't read it yet.)
When I worked with youth years ago, we promoted the idea of spiritual journeying. If you are not on a journey with God, you are missing out on experiencing your faith! If you can't say what you are learning or how you are growing, you are likely dealing with pride or apathy.
Apathy says things like, "What? I'm just doing me", "Don't be so serious all the time - just relax and enjoy life", or "It will all come together - just trust the process". While there is a healthy place for each of these sayings, pushing them over the edge gives license not to be intentional. This mindset risks waking up some time in the future and wondering why you didn't do something sooner.
1- Recognize what needs focus. (Again, this is where the humility comes in.) However, it's not enough just to see what needs to happen, but you can't move forward if you don't know where you are supposed to go.
Your focus could be anything from emotional healing (like release from a lie you have been believing) to a tactical goal (like finishing a project).
2- Own the journey. Identify what has held you back. Name and remove the obstacles of excuse or blame.
3- Settle on quality action steps. Setting SMART goals changes everything.
4- Make a plan to maintain your gains. Whenever you start something new, it takes a while for your neuropathways to rewire what was normal to what is your new normal.
Investing in connection with God and all He has for you is more than worth the effort. It is the goal of our faith.
