There is quite a buzz about Artificial Intelligence, and this is just the beginning. We are living through the technological revolution.
Artificial Intelligence is powerful, to be sure. It scans entire libraries of written and recorded thoughts in moments. It saves time. It digs deep. It pulls from a broad knowledge base. It is truly astounding what can be done, and we are just beginning to harness the possibilities!
Today, let's talk about the other AI.
Actual Interaction is way more VALUABLE than Artificial Intelligence. Don't get me wrong. Artificial Intelligence has its place. While we all need information, and it is astounding how fast we can get it now, but what we all need even more than information is actual interaction. Human connection. Caring, thoughtful, listening, and actual interaction fuels our souls.
God designed us to need others. God is the one who said to Adam, "It is not good for man to be alone." Think about it. Adam had God for a friend, and yet God diagnosed Adam as needy. Interesting right?! From the very beginning, we have needed others to interact with us.
"Better Together" is not just a nice saying on decor; it's really true. A man is truly rich who has deep friendships - anything else you can buy, but friendships are forged through actual interaction.
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. Hebrews 10:25
Quick shout-out for attending church in person. Online is great for people who have a hard time traveling, or who are checking out a church before attending, but actual interaction beats out observing every time.
Most people want to be seen for their intentions, but sometimes how we think we are coming across is not what another person is experiencing. We need others to reflect back to us how they are seeing us and our situations. It takes courage to do this - both from the receiver and the giver, but without it we may not see clearly things that need to be seen.
Iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. Proverbs 27:17
Those who have gone before us have a wealth of experience to share. I'd rather learn from someone else's mistakes than be so proud as to not ask for advice. I'm not talking about the kind of mentoring in that top-down tone that says, "Listen to me young man", but rather the kind that is available to share from experiences when asked.
This one may sound a little odd, but we need others to have people to serve, to forgive, to be forgiven by, for confession, to pray with and for.
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. James 5:16
For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don't use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13
Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32
God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 1 Peter 4:10
Our gifts are our divine design, together we make up the body of Christ, and we need to have actual interaction to do that.
Extroverts know they need to talk things out, but even introverts need to choose words when they share ideas, or talk through decisions, or process situations. We need actual interaction - exchange of ideas, quality questions, and more to work through the stuff of life.
One of my favorite coaching verses is:
Though good advice lies deep within the heart, a person with understanding will draw it out. Proverbs 20:15
How are your Actual Interactions going?
Who's talking with you?
Who are you sharing your life with?
Good Coach Training enhances all your conversations. Our next cohorts are forming now, or take the video training at your own pace. (But of course, actual interaction is better!)
