Meet Michelle: Using Coaching in 3 arenas!

Meet Michelle! Michelle hails from Diamond Bar, CA, doesn't that seem wonderful! She's been a part of Bridges for over a decade now and facilitates our Next Level Coach training. I love what she shared about coach training!

How did you become interested in Coach Training?

As a church leader, I was introduced to the idea of coaching as a helpful ministry skill through the Christ-like servant leadership training I did with KINDLE (kindleservantleaders.org) in 2008-2009.  I resonated with the emphasis of nurturing and helping others through active listening and asking questions instead of giving advice or being responsible for the outcomes.  The tastes I had of being coached and coaching others left me wanting to learn more and grow in the skills.

What prompted you to say join in?

Engaging specifically in coach training with Bridges Coaching was very much about God's timing. I had explored additional coach training, but factors kept blocking the way: cost, requirements of significant time away from my family, lacking the faith component. A serendipitous connection with Cindy Scott, opened the door for me to say "Yes" to moving forward with coach training. What a blessing!

How was your experience with the training?

I have loved and thoroughly enjoyed all the coach training I have done with Bridges Coaching. The Coaching Culture course helped solidify the basics of coaching that truly can be applied in all areas of your life.  It was powerful to receive coaching and to practice coaching under the helpful eye of a trained coach, who helped me grow in my skills.  The online time with classmates, the reading and online materials all helped me grow in my coaching mindset, skills and confidence.  The Next Level Coaching course challenged me to keep growing my skills and deepened my knowledge of coaching competencies.

What are a couple key takeaways that coach training has given you?

Skill-wise it has been about growing in my abilities to listen actively and engage others with thoughtful questions. More significantly it has been about having a coaching mindset in leadership, parenting, and other relationships, which has freed me to believe in others more deeply and be excited about what God is doing in and through them.

How are you using what you have learned?

I find that I am consistently applying what I have learned from coaching in 3 areas: as a leader in ministry, as a parent of teen and now young adult children, and with coaching clients.

What would you say to someone contemplating coach training?

Absolutely say yes! It doesn't matter if you intend to "become a coach" or not.  You will be transformed by what you learn and God will use you to be a blessing to others... friends, family, co-workers... as you shift to a coaching mindset and approach to relationships.
