The ONE Question Crux of Coaching!

Ever wish you had the golden question?

The single bullet question to clarify everything?

Well, today is your lucky day!

This question is too easy, but the hardest question you'll ever answer, and one you will be asking and answering the rest of your life.

True coaching, for yourself or others, is based on this one single probe!

Ready?

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 spells it out for us!

"So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do. Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ."

Did you see it?

WHAT IS YOUR FAITH PROMPTING YOU TO DO?!

This passage is so beautiful and SO CHALLENGING!

Let's break it down a bit. There are two kinds of prompts.

1) General prompts - these are for all believers they include things like:

  • Having regular devotional times, reading God's word, reflecting, obeying and praying.
  • Forgiving others as we have been forgiven.
  • Loving in a way that the world will know that the kingdom offers what their hearts' truly desire!

2) Personal prompts - these are specific to each individual.

1 Corinthians 12, and many other passages, talk about how we are each a different part of the body of Christ with different giftings.

God gifts us with different abilities, aptitude, and passion.

Let me share a personal example, for as long as I can remember I have not been able or interested in working in a medical field. I admire those who do and clearly, we need them, it's just not my thing.

I'm also not very good at sales. I don't enjoy promoting.

Considering what you are not prompted to do can be a first step in identifying what you are prompted to do.

Coaching can help too!

In fact, true coaching is ALL about helping people discern their promptings.

Why do it? Why discern your promptings?

Let's take a look at the passage again.

"So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do. Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ."2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

If we "accomplish all the good things our faith prompts us to do" THEN "the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way we live, and we will be honored along with him."

Oh, how I long for him to be honored!

But, I don't have to do it on my own strength - the last part of that passage is so powerful - "This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ."

So, what's your prompting? If you aren't sure - get a coach to help walk you through it!

Coaching honors promptings!
